What are the Benefits of a Facial?

Renew Wellness & Aesthetics

When was the last time you went to the dentist? Probably within recent memory. Now…when was the last time you saw your aesthetician or massage therapist? (Probably far too long ago, but I’m here to change that!)

I’m sure you’re thinking, “…the dentist and my aesthetician are nowhere near being on the same playing field of importance.” You’re right. I do, however, love to compare the two services to explain why I think regular facials are so important as well as using great home care to achieve beautiful skin. So, stay with me while I plead my case!

You probably go to the dentist for a teeth cleaning roughly every six months. Easy, right? You brush your teeth twice a day at home and floss, use a mouth rinse, maybe you even whiten every now and then. In doing all these things, you’re keeping up your overall dental health, but that biannual visit for a deep clean with your dentist is irreplaceable.

You’re probably not going to stop going just because you clean your teeth at home too, right? And you wouldn’t stop brushing your teeth at home just because you still go to the dentist for a teeth cleaning, either.

Replace that idea with skin care and facials! You may have a full homecare routine for your skin at home, but wouldn’t it be nice to come in every now and again for a great deep clean or a small pick-me-up for your face? My point is, what if we made skincare a priority like we made other things? What benefits might we see? Our skin is the largest organ on our body, and it usually gets the short end of the stick when it comes to decent maintenance and care.

One of the biggest benefits to having a monthly facial is the stimulation of blood flow to the facial muscles and skin. Just like exercising and moving the muscles in your body, it’s important to “move” or stimulate the muscles of the face as well. All the motions during a facial treatment, especially the facial massage, are amazing for stimulating blood flow and giving tired facial muscles a wakeup call. Try adding on a Gua Sha massage (which is like taking your face to the gym) for extra lift tone!

Another noteworthy benefit of a facial is the relaxation of having an hour to yourself. I’m sure you’re thinking, “Of course being more relaxed is a perk,” but did you know that relaxation is linked to overall better health and wellness, which goes hand in hand with skin health? Like I mentioned previously, our skin is the largest organ on our body, but it can also be like a roadmap to what’s going on internally. Stressed skin is dull skin, and dull skin is nobody’s best look!

Regular exfoliation is a more obvious benefit to getting a professional facial, but is often one that can be overlooked. While at-home treatments are amazing for exfoliating the face, they don’t compare to the treatments a licensed aesthetician can perform. (Hello, dental cleaning reference!) I’ve built my product “backbar” to have a little something for everyone when it comes to treatments. I have a range of both physical and chemical exfoliants to give your skin a smooth, beautiful, and professional exfoliating treatment.

In short, seeing your aesthetician regularly is beneficial for both your body and your mind! Make yourself a priority this year; I promise that a flawless, glowing complexion is more easily attainable for all skin types than you might think.

P.S. You can all tell your significant other I told you that your monthly facial was JUST as important as the dentist. I’ll take the heat for it!
