Types of Chemical Peels

After a consultation with our aesthetician, a specific chemical peel and treatment regimen will be decided. Chemical peels can range from our minimally invasive to our more intense peels with visible peeling, so it’s important to discuss your skincare goals with our aesthetician ahead of time.

Chemical Peel FAQ

Common Questions about Chemical Peels

Depending on which Chemical peel is selected, the process is a bit different. For a red carpet peel, we cleanse the skin, degrease and apply the chemical solution. The peel self neutralizes in about 5 minutes. For a more advanced peel, the process takes about 20-25 minutes. We cleanse the skin, degrease, apply two layers of the peel and apply a soothing mask at the end to calm and cool the skin.
A peel takes 5 to 25 minutes, depending on which peel is selected.
Microdermabrasion removes dead skin by suction on the superficial layer of the epidermis. A chemical peel uses an acid to dissolve the dead skin.
Microneedling and chemical peels will dramatically improve the appearance of the skin, but in different ways. Microneedling penetrates the skin at a deeper level to improve more severe skin imperfections such as deep acne scars and significant fine lines and wrinkles. A chemical peel is a more gentle approach that works best on superficial imperfections such as uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation and mild fine lines and wrinkles.
Dermaplaning prior to a chemical peel removes dead skin and peach fuzz so that the chemical peel solution can penetrate the skin at a deeper level. This combination also improves absorption of skincare topical products used at home.
Immediately after a chemical peel, patients should avoid sun exposure and exfoliating products such as retinols, acids and facial scrubs.
Certain chemical peels can be beneficial for the treatment of melasma. However, there may be a process that needs to be done to prep the skin for the peel. Schedule a consultation with us and we can ensure the correct skincare is being used and the right chemical peel is selected.
All chemical peels will improve the appearance of hyperpigmentation, but the TCA peel (our strongest peel) is going to give the patient the best results in significantly lightening unwanted dark spots and pigmentation such as melasma.
