Avoid actively tanning prior and during your IPL sessions. It is absolutely necessary that the area to be treated be protected with a sunscreen that blocks both UVA and UVB rays. You must not have a tan at the time of treatment.

Avoid applying sunless tanning products for a week prior to treatment. If used, please exfoliate 1 week prior to IPL treatment.

If you have facial hair, please shave the morning of your treatment.

Retin-A, Renova, Hydroquinone and other over the counter retinols must be stopped 5-7 days prior to IPL treatment.

If you have a history of cold sores, prophylactic antiviral therapy may be started prior to IPL. It is important to let us know if you have ever had a cold sore. You will start antiviral therapy 2 days prior to treatment and complete therapy 2 days post treatment for a total of 5 days of therapy.

If swelling occurs, it usually subsides in a few hours and you may apply makeup immediately.

Brown spots will lift up to the surface and may get darker. Don’t pick! They will slough off in approximately 10-14 days and with the help of your follow up exfoliation treatment.

Rarely, some crusting, blistering or bruising may be seen. When this occurs, it tends to heal in 3-7 days. These side effects are uncommon, as this is a “no down-time” treatment.
