The doctors who cared for her during that recovery process made such an impression that she was inspired to be a physician and help others with their physical ailments. But it was only after her residency and fellowship training that she decided her path.
“I was drawn to the way aesthetic medicine could build peoples’ confidence. I would see people leaving the office so much happier than when they walked in and with a boost of confidence they did not have before their treatment,” says Dr. Shelley. “ I loved my experience practicing Sports Medicine, but something kept drawing me toward aesthetic medicine.”
Her desire was to blend her unique sports background and aesthetic training to create something special to serve an even wider variety of needs.
Renew Wellness and Aesthetics is the unique medical spa Dr. Shelley wanted to bring to the community she loves. It’s a space where she and her team can treat both the aesthetic concerns as well as the physical and emotional health concerns of her patients.
They provide traditional medical spa services such as a full-menu of injectables, waxing and skincare services for both men and women as well as cutting-edge regenerative treatment options. This includes an extensive list of services that bring solutions for problems ranging from low-libido and related hormone imbalances to incontinence and hair loss.
“Renew brings such a personalized approach to medical care in the Nichols Hills area, “ says Dr. Shelley. “Our team does such a great job of making sure we know each of our patients on a personal level, and I think that allows us to create the best individualized treatment plan for each patient.”
She is proud of the care and excellent treatment Renew is able to bring to the Nichols Hills community and Oklahoma City area — and she attributes much of that success to her talented team.
“My team – which includes nurse injector Jessie Hammock RN, aesthetician and certified medical micropigmentologist Sarah Lowell-Oshman, and Patient Coordinator Taylor Grande – make coming to work a joy every day,” says Dr. Shelley. “My goal was to have a team that truly cared for patients, would always put patients first, and would always have a positive attitude no matter what the scenario. They have truly exceeded my expectations, and I don’t know what I would do without them.”
Dr. Shelley is on a mission to improve the lives of her patients through the advancement of regenerative as well as aesthetic medicine.
“There is nothing like making an impact on someone’s life,” says, Dr. Shelley. “As a physician, to truly improve the way someone feels is so rewarding.”
She is a firm believer in self-care and encourages her patients to supplement their aesthetic treatments with healthy habits that improve their emotional and physical health.
“At Renew, we offer nutraceuticals, including Vitamin D supplements, Omega 3/Fish Oil, B Complex Vitamins, Iron supplements, Active Probiotic, DIM, and a sleep supplement with natural ingredients including melatonin, magnolia seed extract, and valerian.”
Sexual wellness is another area in which many of Renew’s patients are seeing real-life results. Dr. Shelley and her team are committed to creating a space for open conversation and comprehensive regenerative treatment options for both men and women. She and her team have undergone extensive training with the Intimate Wellness Institute™, which was co-founded by a renowned urogynecologist, to train and become certified in treatments to improve intimate health in both men and women.
When it comes to aesthetics, the concern she and her team hear most often is, “I don’t want to look unnatural.”
“I like to let all of our patients know that at Renew, we are conservative with our treatment approach and always strive to create the most natural yet beautiful look for our patients,” says Dr. Shelley.
“That is one of the reasons why we trademarked ‘The Natural Oklahoma Look™,’ because each of our providers has the goal of creating the most beautiful version of yourself while still allowing you to look like yourself.”
Whether it’s helping her patients or enjoying the Nichols Hills community with her family — Dr. Shelley is excited to spend her life investing in the people she cares about in the place she loves most.
Does anyone else feel like it has been months since we last chatted? I hope you all have stayed well, and if you have not been back to visit us at Renew yet, we are ready and waiting! While we are all focusing on protecting our health right now, it occurred to me that maybe we’re letting some other areas of our self-care fall to the wayside. I wanted to write a QUICK blog talking a little bit about our favorite sunscreens, sun protection and summer skin care recovery — so here it goes!
The summer months are finally here and it’s time to celebrate! Trips to exotic places may be few and far between, but quick getaways to the lake or your favorite poolside are totally within reach. I personally love to be on a boat at the lake with my friends, which is where I spend most of my summer weekends. However, it seems like no matter how hard I try to avoid it, some area of my body comes home with a bit of a sunburn or some other less than glamorous “side effect” of a long weekend in the sun. We have a ton of great SPF options at Renew, so today I want to talk about MY personal faves.
First up are my two favorite sunscreens we carry here (see the complete offering list at the end).
I cannot go a day without the Total Defense and Repair Tinted SPF 34 from Skin Medica as part of my skin care routine. I am so picky about what a tinted moisturizer or SPF looks like on me, and this one fits the bill. It’s very light and not greasy and gives just enough coverage so that I can rock a natural summer glow look, or even layer a little powder over the top and transition it to a socially-distanced night on the town look. It also comes in non-tinted, which I love as well. A great perk of this SPF is that it also has blue light and infrared protection. For anyone wondering, blue light is the light emitted from our “screens” aka: cell phones, laptops, iPads, etc. Recent studies have found that blue light damage is just as aging and causes just as much damage as UVA/UVB rays. With all this increased screen time, it is best to protect your skin with this broad spectrum sunscreen that is appropriate for all skin types! Did I also mention that one of the key benefits of this moisturizer is that it reduces fine lines and wrinkles AND improves the appearance of damaged skin?? What more could you ask for?
As a fair-skinned blondie, body sunscreens are super important for me! I love the Elta MD UV Spray and UV Sport! I use the spray on my body and the UV Sport on my face, ears, and along the part in my hair so my scalp does not get burned if I’m not wearing a hat. Honestly, anything from the Elta MD line is FAB but these are the two I find myself reaching for the most. I’ve also managed to hook my boyfriend on using the UV Sport! He tosses it in his golf bag and applies it once or twice during his golf game. He loves that he can apply this water-resistant sunscreen to his head (#baldisbeautiful) and his face without having to worry that the heat and humidity might get the best of him. This same thing makes it a kid-approved SPF too, no more stingy eyes at the pool!
Two of my other “can’t live without” summer skin care products are more of an after-sun product and help my skin to bounce back after some time in the sun or in the water. First up is Le Mieux’s Iso Cell Recovery Spray. I found this product several years ago when I first became an aesthetician, and it’s been my most coveted product ever since. As luck would have it, when I completed my Oncology Aesthetics training in Chicago, this product was one of the few that had been approved as oncology-safe and was recommended to treat skin that had been damaged by radiation or chemo. I love to use this spray pre- and post-sun exposure to help my skin balance and retain moisture. It feels like heaven on sunburned skin and has been proven to help it heal quicker than if you were to leave it untreated. I also love to use this spray on any scrapes, cuts, bug bites or any other unpleasant skin issue that comes by way. I also love the Moisture Infusion Sheet Mask by Le Mieux, and my sister-in-law is a fan as well. It gives your skin an instant refreshed feeling and hits the reset on your moisture levels.
I told you I would keep this short and sweet, so I’ll wrap it up with this…PROTECT YOUR SKIN! Great skin starts with great skincare, and great skincare should always include sunscreen. As promised, the complete list of our staff sun care picks is below but I do hope you enjoyed reading about a few of my personal favorites.
Until next time,
• ISO Cell Recovery Solution and ISO Cell Silver Gel from Le Mieux
• Lytera 2.0 from SkinMedica
• Discoloration Defense and Metacell Renewal B from SkinCeuticals
Post Sun/Lake/Pool Dryness:
• Dermal Repair Cream from SkinMedica (would be great for swimmers who experience chlorine dryness)
• Biocellulose Masque from SkinCeuticals
• Moisture Infusion Sheet Mask by Le Mieux
• Essential Defense Mineral SPF from SkinMedica
Outdoor Activities/Sports (great for men):
• EltaMD UV Sport
• EltaMD UV Clear
• EltaMD UV Spray
• EltaMD UV Lotion
Hello, hello! Coming at you from my couch during this lovely quarantine (fingers crossed that by the time you’re reading this, we’re all back to “normal”). I figured with this time on my hands, why not write a few blogs over some of my favorite skin care products!? I’ll be the first to say it took me a while to get my digs in with the ZO by Obagi line. It was very new to me, but as soon as I started using it and seeing the changes in my clients’ skin, I was hooked! While I have several products from ZO that I absolutely love, I think my two favorites are the 10% Vitamin C and the Growth Factor Serum.
Vitamin C products in the skincare industry are a time-tested favorite for many reasons. The top few reasons are its ability to lighten areas of pigmentation and its added benefit of some extra sun protection. ZO by Obagi’s Vitamin C is no stranger to those things! It helps to even out skin tone and provide overall clarity to your complexion. I personally struggle with a dull, uneven skin tone. I don’t necessarily have a ton of (visible) sun damage, but I feel like my skin constantly looks dull. I started using the 10% Vitamin C a few weeks ago and began to see a huge difference in the overall glow of my skin! After incorporating a Microneedling Treatment with PRP, my skin is finally on its way to being smooth and clear. It’s also worth noting that the texture of this product is amazing. To me it feels like a smooth, soft makeup primer, which makes it easy for me to layer on in the mornings. It also gets bonus points for its smell (hello fresh citrus)! I like this particular Vitamin C product over others because 1.) I feel like I can see a huge difference in my skin clarity sooner and 2.) The texture and scent seal the deal. In the past, I’ve used Vitamin C serums that have been really runny and honestly kind of stinky, and this is neither. It’s also worth noting that this product causes me ZERO breakouts!
Another favorite product of mine, and one that’s becoming sort of a “cult beauty favorite” among my clients, is the Growth Factor Serum from ZO by Obagi. This Growth Factor Serum is what I’m now calling filler in a jar. Its main purpose is to help “plump” back up fine lines and wrinkles. I love it because I’m not totally sure I want filler in my smile lines yet, but they do bother me, and this product is the perfect midway solution. I’m already noticing a difference in my “marionette lines” and under eye areas. To quote one of my clients “I’ll never not own this stuff…I want to bathe in it.” I can’t say I disagree with her! While not a replacement for filler, this product is a great building block to it. I also like to use it around existing filler I already have (my lips) to help protect my investment and keep any fine lines from making a surprise appearance. If your filler appointment is currently on hold thanks to COVID-19, I cannot recommend trying the anti aging ZO Growth Factor enough! As with the 10% Vitamin C from ZO, the smell and texture of this product alone is enough to get you hooked. In fact when I use it on facial clients, the first thing they comment on is how good it smells!
Honorable mention from the ZO by Obagi line goes to: Wrinkle + Texture Repair and Daily Power Defense. I have also recently incorporated those into my skincare routine, and I am loving them. The Wrinkle and Texture is great for stubborn acne and rough texture, and the Daily Power Defense gives my fair skin an extra boost of sun protection as well as protection from the daily stressors of our environment.
All in all, this product line is amazing, and I’m so excited we decided to bring it on as one of our Physician-Grade skincare lines at Renew! If you’re looking for a way to change up your current skincare routine, I recommend adding in one of these products!
Hey all! It’s your favorite aesthetician here at Renew, Sarah!
Just wanted to write a quick blog about some of my favorite pregnancy-safe products and treatments we offer at Renew. Taylor, our sweet Patient Services Coordinator, is expecting her first baby soon, and it seems like so many other friends and family of the staff here are expecting little ones as well. What better time to write a little something to focus on them? Treatments and safe skincare products can seem like such a wash during pregnancy. I mean — if you can’t get Botox, what on Earth is there to be excited about!? The great news is here at Renew, that’s totally not the case! I offer several pregnancy-safe facials, and we also carry many products that are mama and baby approved! So, let’s dive in and chat about some of my favorites…
The “Mask of Pregnancy” (aka Melasma) can be a frustrating side effect of the hormonal changes your body goes through during pregnancy. If you aren’t familiar with the term, it’s essentially a darkening of areas of skin on the face, usually around the upper lip and eyes, hence a “mask.” These areas can be as subtle as a freckling of color or as deep in pigment coloration as “café au lait.” Some women also report experiencing melasma while using different forms of hormonal contraceptives. The good news is, hormone related melasma USUALLY resolves after pregnancy or cessation of birth control use, but it can take more time than most women are willing to wait. The better news? At Renew, we have a pregnancy-safe treatment for melasma. We carry a product that helps not only speed up the process of fading these areas but also to help prevent its development altogether. Lytera 2.0 from Skin Medica is one of the most effective and innovative pigment lightening skincare products on the market.
Honorable mention goes to the ZO by Obagi- Exfoliating Polish as another pregnancy-safe product fave of mine, but you’ll have to book a facial to experience the magic of this one for yourself!
We also offer a few fabulous pregnancy-safe facial treatments that have become a “mama fave” here at Renew. The first being our “Diamond Glow” or as some of you know it, “Dermalinfusion” treatment. This treatment involves a deep but gentle exfoliation using a diamond tip and suction, while also infusing a customized serum for your pregnancy skincare needs. This is one of my favorite facials, regardless of whether you’re pregnant or not! I recommend it to everyone because in my opinion, it’s truly one of the best facials money can buy. It’s the deepest clean your skin will ever get, and you leave with an immediate glow! Maybe you’re nearing the end of your pregnancy and are more concerned with a little relaxation and just trying to be comfortable than you are worried about skincare…no worries as we have a facial that fits both of those things! Our Prenatal Facial is the ultimate relaxation experience before your baby arrives. An entire hour of quiet pampering to yourself? Yes please! It’s worth noting that I also have a completely adjustable bed in my treatment room as well as supportive pillows to make sure your body is in its most comfortable position.
As always, I am available for any skincare or treatment questions you might have and would love to help you navigate the skin changes that come along with welcoming a new baby into this wild world.
Come in for our NEW IV Vitamin Therapy treatment, which offers up to 10 grams of IV Vitamin C! We recommend adding on Glutathione to your treatment for additional immune protection!
Not ready to come to the office but wanting to protect your immune system and boost your energy levels and immune response from home? Our Vitamin C with Zinc oral supplement can be ordered and shipped directly to your home! Call 405.810.5944 or shoot us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org to order your supplements today!
There is no question that we are all under an increased amount of stress during this time in our world. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused increased worry and stress at the utmost heightened levels. We are stressed about keeping ourselves and our loved ones safe and healthy, keeping our jobs, and how we will homeschool our kids. Those on the front lines of our healthcare system are stressed about not having enough protection to safely treat those with the virus while also protecting themselves. We are stressed about the unknown and wondering when our world will go back to “normal.”
Stress affects our bodies both emotionally and physically, so it comes as no surprise that our skin is one area where we display our stress the most. Our skin is the largest organ in our body, and it can show our stress in a number of different ways, including acne breakouts and inflammatory responses such as rosacea, eczema, and psoriasis. The interesting thing about our skin is that it can’t tell the difference between different types of stress such as physical, emotional, or environmental stress. However, we do know that the longer we endure stress, the harder the toll it takes on our skin.
• Stress Triggers an Inflammatory Response
This inflammatory response starts in the digestive system and works its way to our skin. Increased amounts of stress on our bodies (whether physical or emotional) induces a “fight or flight” response within us and slows down our digestion in the gut. This slowed digestion in turn affects bacteria in the gut. It causes the “bad” bacteria in our digestive system to overproduce. This “bad” bacteria, in addition to other toxins, then leaks through the membranes of our gut and into other parts of our body, causing systemic inflammation. As a result of this internal inflammation, our skin also becomes inflamed, which induces unwanted skin conditions such as rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, and even acne breakouts.
• Stress Dries Out Skin
When our bodies are under stress, we start to produce high levels of two stress hormones called adrenaline and cortisol. The activation of these hormones weakens our immune system and leads to inflammation in our bodies. These hormones also trigger our sweat glands to produce sweat, which causes us to lose water more quickly. This leads to dehydration and affects our skin’s ability to hold onto water, which then results in dry, flaky, and even red skin.
• Stress Can Make Your Skin More Oily
In addition to drying out our skin, stress can also make our skin more oily. While this might sound like a conundrum, it’s actually a scientific fact. Stress leads to this dry AND oily combination skin because as stated earlier, an increase in cortisol activates our sweat glands, also known as our sebaceous glands. This increase in sweat gland activity leads to an increased production of oil in our skin, which then leads to blockages in our pores. The dry flakiness of our stressed skin also blocks our pores, resulting in worsening acne breakouts.
• Take a Daily Probiotic
Probiotics aren’t “skin care products” per se. However, the positive effects that probiotics can have on your skin are outstanding! Earlier, it was discussed that increased stress can lead to “leaky gut” and increased bacteria and inflammation throughout the body. Taking a probiotic one to two times daily can DECREASE the amount of bacteria in your gut, therefore DECREASING inflammation in the body and skin, leading to less acne, rosacea, and other inflammatory conditions. In addition, probiotics will help support mental health and mood as a result of the decreased inflammation! My go-to probiotic of choice (which we carry at Renew!) is:
Active Probiotic by Farmakeio
• Use a Gentle Skin Cleanser
Some of my favorite skin cleansers that we carry at Renew are:
Simply Clean by SkinCeuticals
Gentle Cleanser by ZO
Purifying Foaming Wash by SkinMedica (for acne-prone and oily skin)
• If acne-prone, use a retinol!
Retinols help clear up acne-prone skin by keeping the follicles clear so that oil does not become trapped under the skin. This prevents further acne breakouts. We carry several different retinols at Renew with varying strengths to provide the best individualized treatments for our patients. In those with sensitive skin, I recommend starting with the lowest dose retinol one to two nights per week and slowly titrating up. Some of my favorite retinols are:
Retinol 0.3 by SkinCeuticals
Retinol Complex 0.5 by SkinMedica
Retinol Skin Brightening 0.5% by ZO
• Keep your skin hydrated!
It is important to keep your skin hydrated at ALL times, but particularly during times of stress, as we know stress dehydrates our skin. My top choices for skin hydrators that WON’T clog your pores are:
Triple Lipid Restore by SkinCeuticals
Hydrating B5 Gel by SKinCeuticals
HA5 Rejuvenating Hydrator by SkinMedica
• Drink plenty of water
Drinking water is another way to keep you skin (AND your body) hydrated. I recommend drinking at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day.
• Relieve your stress!
Taking care of our bodies both physically AND emotionally is paramount to helping us cope with stress and improving our overall health and wellbeing. I recommend the following healthy habits to improve your mental and physical health:
• Get plenty of sleep! Most adults need 7-9 hours of sleep per night.
• Exercise! I recommend at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise at least five days per week.
• Meditate or pray DAILY. This will help bring a sense of peace to your overall emotional wellbeing and will in turn help you cope with stress.
Hey everyone! This is Sarah, the Renew Wellness aesthetician. Let’s talk facials!
When was the last time you went to the dentist? Probably within recent memory. Now…when was the last time you saw your aesthetician or massage therapist? (Probably far too long ago, but I’m here to change that!)
I’m sure you’re thinking, “Sarah…the dentist and my aesthetician are nowhere near being on the same playing field of importance.” You’re right. I do, however, love to compare the two services to explain why I think regular facials are so important as well as using great home care to achieve beautiful skin. So, stay with me while I plead my case!
You probably go to the dentist for a teeth cleaning roughly every six months. Easy, right? You brush your teeth twice a day at home and floss, use a mouth rinse, maybe you even whiten every now and then. In doing all these things, you’re keeping up your overall dental health, but that biannual visit for a deep clean with your dentist is irreplaceable.
You’re probably not going to stop going just because you clean your teeth at home too, right? And you wouldn’t stop brushing your teeth at home just because you still go to the dentist for a teeth cleaning, either.
Replace that idea with skin care and facials! You may have a full homecare routine for your skin at home, but wouldn’t it be nice to come in every now and again for a great deep clean or a small pick-me-up for your face? My point is, what if we made skincare a priority like we made other things? What benefits might we see? Our skin is the largest organ on our body, and it usually gets the short end of the stick when it comes to decent maintenance and care.
One of the biggest benefits to having a monthly facial is the stimulation of blood flow to the facial muscles and skin. Just like exercising and moving the muscles in your body, it’s important to “move” or stimulate the muscles of the face as well. All the motions during a facial treatment, especially the facial massage, are amazing for stimulating blood flow and giving tired facial muscles a wakeup call. Try adding on a Gua Sha massage (which is like taking your face to the gym) for extra lift tone!
Another noteworthy benefit of a facial is the relaxation of having an hour to yourself. I’m sure you’re thinking, “Of course being more relaxed is a perk,” but did you know that relaxation is linked to overall better health and wellness, which goes hand in hand with skin health? Like I mentioned previously, our skin is the largest organ on our body, but it can also be like a roadmap to what’s going on internally. Stressed skin is dull skin, and dull skin is nobody’s best look!
Regular exfoliation is a more obvious benefit to getting a professional facial, but is often one that can be overlooked. While at-home treatments are amazing for exfoliating the face, they don’t compare to the treatments a licensed aesthetician can perform. (Hello, dental cleaning reference!) I’ve built my product “backbar” to have a little something for everyone when it comes to treatments. I have a range of both physical and chemical exfoliants to give your skin a smooth, beautiful, and professional exfoliating treatment.
In short, seeing your aesthetician regularly is beneficial for both your body and your mind! Make yourself a priority this year; I promise that a flawless, glowing complexion is more easily attainable for all skin types than you might think.
P.S. You can all tell your significant other I told you that your monthly facial was JUST as important as the dentist. I’ll take the heat for it!

Ring, ring! The 90s called, and they want their permanent makeup back! Times have changed, ladies, and so have permanent cosmetic techniques and looks. Our incredible aesthetician, Sarah Lowell-Oshman, is officially accepting new bookings for these services in 2020 after completing an extensive training program! Check out what she has to say about it below:
I’m so excited to share that I have recently completed an extensive training program for Medical Micropigmentology, or permanent makeup, here in Oklahoma City! My instructor at the Marion Kay Institute of Permanent Makeup, Rima Kay, is a well-known permanent makeup artist and boasts over 10 years of experience and advanced training in the industry.
The class offered a rigorous program from October to January 2020 and included over 18 clinical appointments, which gave me the vital opportunity to train on live models while under her instruction. I was one of only four students accepted into the program initially and one of the two that successfully passed and graduated! The training included an in-depth look at several techniques used in the permanent makeup industry such as: ombre brow, solid brow, powder brow, eyeliner and lash enhancement, and various lip color techniques, such as the ombre lip and the newly popular “lip blush.”
I take immense pride in perfecting the artistry and technique of cosmetic tattooing; I want your brow shape, lips, or liner to be as flawless as you are! My ultimate goal is to always cater to each individual look or style that a client desires. Since perfect brows are some of my most sought-after services, I’ve included a few short descriptions below of the different techniques and who they might be best suited for:
Now onto the lips! Lip coloring styles can range anywhere from super packed and pigmented to soft and airy – just like a lip blush! I’ve noticed that the majority of my clients are wanting a softer color similar to lip blush, often with a “faded” or ombre center. This allows the client to have flexibility with layering other colors over the tattooed area and provides them with a look that will blend flawlessly, whether you have a full face of makeup on or not.
Lip color is chosen very carefully during your consultation. I like to have my clients bring in their top three lip colors they wear, and we find a great match from that. (So far, I’ve had a lot of gorgeous berry pinks and a few really fun peachy-nude colors!) We can also tailor the lip shape during these procedures, so if a client has a scar or slightly uneven shape, I am typically able to correct that.
As for eyeliner procedures, I currently offer a basic eyeliner style with or without a wing and, my personal favorite, a natural eyelash enhancement. Eyelash enhancement-style liner is done by softly building up ink right in the lash line or often a little above that line. This gives lashes a gorgeous, thick look and can easily be added onto with your own makeup or with more permanent makeup.
I recommend this style of tattoo for people who aren’t sure how thick they want their liner or for people who still want to have a “natural look” when they’re makeup free. (Hello, summer lake days!)
How the Renew team helps patients enhance their natural beauty through expert use of Botox, fillers and more.
Renew is dedicated to designing an individualized approach for each patient to create the appearance they desire. In order to align our treatments with patients’ aesthetic and cosmetic goals, Renew has embraced the term The Natural Oklahoma Look™ to describe a specific treatment approach when it comes to creating a beautiful, refreshed look for patients without having them look overdone.
Renew’s goal is to enhance and embrace the natural beauty of patients in addition to restoring the volume of their appearance during those younger years. Our team addresses issues like fine lines, crows feet, acne scars, uneven skin tones with the use of neuromodulators such as Botox cosmetic and Dysport injections, dermal fillers, laser treatments, microneedling, and regenerative medical treatments like platelet-rich plasma procedures to create The Natural Oklahoma Look.™
Since Renew Wellness & Aesthetics first opened its doors in Oklahoma City, Dr. Julie Shelley and our team of medical providers have strived to create a beautiful, youthful, and natural look for patients in our approach to nonsurgical cosmetic and aesthetic procedures.
During consultations and treatment area appointments with patients, the Renew team will often hear that they want their aesthetic skin care treatments to look “natural” and not “overdone”. Most patients will request that they still want to look like themselves after their treatments, and only want to create the appearance of looking several years younger.
We take the time to meet with each patient to discuss their ultimate cosmetic goals and outcome during our consultation appointments so our patients know the exact level of care they’re receiving. Our team’s eye for detail, artistry, and natural approach sets us apart from other aesthetic providers in the area and ensures each patient is thrilled with their results before they leave the office.
Ready to meet with our team about designing The Natural Oklahoma Look™ for you? Contact us today to schedule a free consultation!
*In 2020, The Natural Oklahoma Look™ will also include permanent makeup treatment.
Winter is coming. Wait, scratch that, winter is HERE, which means it’s time for colder temps and drier days to wreak havoc on your skin, face, and body. I don’t know about you, but I think dry, itchy skin is one of the most frustrating things that comes with the cold weather. It seems like you can never get enough moisture for your skin despite your efforts, leaving you uncomfortable all season long.
When I say I’ve used just about every lotion and moisturizer on the market, I’m not exaggerating. They all claim to deeply moisturize and correct even the driest skin on your face and body, but do they really work? Sometimes I feel like the only thing that would really help me would be to give my skin a huge drink of water. (And I bet I’m not the only one!)
Enter SkinMedica HA5. I’m not kidding when I say this product is instant hydration for your skin. While it’s specifically marketed and made for your face, I often find myself putting it on my arms and legs and even my lips when they’re feeling dry and cracked.
The reason HA5 works so well is because it supports the skin’s natural ability to replenish its own hyaluronic acid (HA) to promote overall skin health, and this product contains a proprietary mix of five HA forms that smooth the skin. (Hello, added benefit of smoothing fine lines!) These five HA forms work together to provide immediate hydration and smoothing of the skin when the product is applied.
HA5 is a hydrator, rather than a moisturizer, which is what makes it different from your run-of-the-mill drugstore moisturizers. While a moisturizer is considered to be a cosmetic cream or lotion that’s made to help prevent dryness and potentially lock in existing moisture (think: Aquaphor), a hydrator is a cosmetic treatment that promotes epidermal health and encourages the body and skin cells to naturally replenish moisture and HA!
This is a water-loving product, so the recommended practice for applying HA5 to the skin is to lightly wet the fingertips and gently apply to affected areas for maximum efficiency. You can apply this product twice a day, both morning and night. (Pro tip: Here at Renew, it’s a staff favorite to use as a makeup primer!)
I personally love to apply it on my elbows, legs, and under my eyes to help smooth any fine lines or wrinkles. I always feel like my skin there is begging for moisture and every little smile and expression line shows without it. While HA5 is no replacement for Botox or filler when it comes to getting rid of those pesky wrinkles, it certainly provides an immediate softening of the area and helps me to look more awake and refreshed.
I also LOVE to use this on my legs, especially post shaving! My legs tend to be the driest area on my body, and shaving can sometimes exacerbate that. This product provides me instant relief with the added comfort of knowing that its changing those skin cells and helping them learn how to make more of their own HA. Solving the problem immediately as well as creating a long-term solution for it? Sign me up!
