With almost 3.5 million filler procedures performed in the US in 2020, dermal filler treatment is becoming very common. One of the most popular kinds of filler treatment is lip injections. More and more people are being drawn to it.

Before you do anything to your body, however, you should do your research and make sure it’s the right choice for you. This includes researching the best places near me for lip injections. This is true even with something as minor as lip injections, in comparison to larger-scale plastic surgeries. You can always schedule a free consultation at Renew Wellness & Aesthetics in Oklahoma City to discuss your aesthetic goals and determine what might be best for you.

Here are a few things you need to know before making a decision about lip injections.

1. Lip Injections Can Last Anywhere Between Six Months to a Year

There are a few factors that determine how long your lip injections will last. It can depend on what kind of filler you get, if you follow instructions about what not to do after lip injections, and other things — but mostly, it depends on your metabolic rate!

Many different people could get the same kind of filler and move their lips the same amount, and there would be variation in how long it lasted.

In general, you can expect lip filler to last between six months and a year, though you may find yourself slightly outside of this window in either direction.

2. Your Real Lips Don’t Feel Different

Many people have questions about lip injections before and after treatment that goes beyond just appearance.

They wonder if their lips will feel the same, and if someone kissing them will be able to tell they’ve had lip injections.

If you did your research and found a trusted clinic, and the job was well done, then lip filler should feel no different than real lips. Finding a reputable provider is the key to ensuring your lips feel no different.

3. The Pain Isn’t Bad After Lip Injections

Many first-hand accounts of lip filler state that the pain isn’t as bad as they thought it was going to be. Most people are surprised at just how quick and easy the process is!

If you’re concerned about getting lip injections because you don’t have a high pain tolerance, you’ll likely surprise yourself. At Renew Wellness & Aesthetics, our providers offer many different options for numbing the lips prior to treatment so that the filler treatment itself is comfortable.

4. But We Can Reduce Any Potential Pain

If you’re still very worried about pain, you can ask about a topical anesthetic cream or even an injectable anesthetic (also known as a dental block). We also offer ProNox, which is a patient-controlled nitrous oxide inhaled anesthetic that minimizes anxiety and discomfort.

Although the procedure itself is relatively easy, at Renew, we do offer our patients an anesthetic so that they can feel more comfortable knowing the area is already numb when going in.

5. You’ll See Results from Lip Injections Right Away

There are certain cosmetic procedures where you may not see any results for quite some time — or at least, may not know what the final appearance is going to be.

This isn’t the case with lip injections! You’ll see plumper lips right away, although you will have some swelling and bruising immediately after the treatment. It will take a few weeks for everything to settle, and the swelling will significantly decrease after about 2-3 days. Still, from the moment you leave our clinic, you should have an idea of what your new lips will look like once the filler settles.

This can be handy for those who might be anxious about what they will end up looking like, alleviating any worries before even leaving the room.

6. Swelling Takes Around Three Days to Go Down

Obviously, there are still things to consider about the appearance of your lips immediately after the procedure. There can be some bruising and swelling, which is only natural after having filler put in.

This swelling only tends to last about three days, so don’t worry that you’re going to be stuck with it for a long time. It’s extremely temporary in comparison to how long the results last. The full integration of lip filler will take place over about two weeks, and it is normal to experience a few lumps or bumps in the first few days before the filler settles in.

7. Natural-looking Lips Are Absolutely Possible!

One thing that puts many people off about lip fillers is that they’re worried things will go too far when they’re in the chair.

Many people don’t want large, obviously fake lips. They want lips that are full and plump but still look like their own lips.

One of the great things about lip filler is that many different results are possible, depending on your aesthetic goals. At Renew, we do a consultation to discuss your goals to determine the right amount and type of filler to be used. We have no problem accommodating our patients and want you to be completely happy with the end result. Natural-looking results are absolutely possible with lip fillers. In fact, Renew is home of The Natural Oklahoma Look, and we aim to help our patients find the best treatments to enhance their natural beauty.

8. Work with a Trained Professional

Some people are afraid of getting lip injections in case the person does a bad job, or it ends up botched. They read horror stories about facial cosmetic procedures and get scared it will happen to them.

The truth is, if you visit a reputable clinic with a trained professional, the chances of a botched job are utterly minimal. At Renew, we talk through any and all of your concerns so that you are comfortable and leave with a job well done. Read more about all of our Injectables for both men and women offered at Renew in advance of a free consultation.

9. Injections Can Trigger Cold Sores for Some

There’s a common myth that lip injections can cause cold sores.

It is true that if you already have the virus, an outbreak can be triggered by the injection of lip filler. This is why it’s best to take preventative medication for the cold sores before coming in. Your experienced provider at Renew will take a thorough history and can prescribe an antiviral medication at your appointment to prevent cold sores from occurring after your filler.

Having the virus doesn’t, by any means, mean you can’t get lip injections — only that you should take preventative action, with the help of your provider, before receiving lip filler.

10. Lip Filler is Temporary

If you love the look of your lip injections, you’ll end up having to get more. Some people love that lip fillers dissolve after a period of time and your normal lips return because they’re a low commitment. Others hate the upkeep!

How often you’ll have to get filler will depend on when the filler disappears (though you can always space our appointments out even more too). It is something to be prepared for and budget for if you really love the look of your enhanced lips and decide you can’t live without them.

11. It Won’t Impact Your Work

Many people wonder if they’ll have to take a few days off work to get lip injections.

The answer is no, you shouldn’t have to. Unless your job is high-intensity and involves a lot of exercise (in which case, yes, you may need a day off), you should be fine. You may incur some swelling with lip injections, but it shouldn’t impact your ability to do a fairly sedentary job.

For full advice, ask any of our expert injectors at Renew and describe your job to them.

12. Don’t Cheap Out – Find a Reputable Lip Injector

The cost of lip injections can be high, or it can be as low as a couple of hundred dollars. If it’s the latter, however, be wary.

Low-quality clinics often offer filler that’s cheaper than the usual price to draw you in when they do not do a good job. They may even be using some unprofessional practices that you don’t want to go anywhere near! We wrote about many patients coming to see us for corrective work needed after being injected with the Hyaluron Pen. Please use caution and understand the downsides if you let price control your decision.

When it comes to the cost of your lip injections, try to focus on the clinic more than the total. Good doesn’t always come cheap, and you should be wary of too good to be true pricing.

Are you tired of those growing bags under your eyes? Millions of people all around the world struggle with looking in the mirror and focusing on the bags, wrinkles and shadows that are often signs of aging. But the good news is: you don’t need to live with unwanted under-eye bags anymore.

With tear trough filler, you can make your eyes shine like never before. Not sure what it’s all about? Keep reading to find out how we can brighten up your life!

Understanding Tear Troughs and Tear Trough Filler

A tear trough is a deep crease under the eyelid that causes the dark bags and shadows we see in the mirror. Sometimes, these tear troughs are inherited genetically, while others come through age or insufficient skincare.

The skin under the eyelid thins as you age. The muscles are no longer able to hold up the skin and fat as well as they used to. Furthermore, the collagen and elastin levels in our skin decrease with age too. This decrease not only causes the bags under eyes but also under-eye wrinkles too.

Over time, the mixture of muscle thinning, collagen, and elastin decreases, which causes tear troughs and wrinkles to form.

Besides aging, life stress and lack of sleep can also cause tear troughs to form. Over time, they get worse if the individual is not adequately taking care of themselves. We all know that sometimes life gets a little hectic and our sleep routines get mixed. With this in mind, it is still vitally important to get the recommended amount of sleep and practice self-care when stressed.

Tear trough fillers are a treatment created to help fix this. It is an injection under the eyes to add volume back to the area. It reduces the tear trough hollowness and fills it so it appears fuller. This is a valuable option for those with severe tear troughs and under-eye wrinkles that are looking for solutions.

The Science Behind Tear Trough Filler

This treatment involves injecting a gel primarily made of hyaluronic acid. The most common hyaluronic acid injected into the tear trough at Renew Wellness & Aesthetics is Restylane.

The reason we use this substance is that it is naturally created in the human body, so it binds well as an injected gel. When injected into the body, it promotes fullness and tightens the skin. Hyaluronic acid can be used for other skincare fixes as well. However, be aware of the dangers of using the hyaluronic pen currently marketed or other hyaluronic acid treatments without the supervision of a medical doctor or licensed professional.

While tear trough filler may not last forever, it can last a long-term period of time that can make managing those bags much easier. This means you won’t have to go through the tedious work of covering up the tear troughs every day or applying topical serums religiously. You can have a long-lasting fix that you will love, and it will be more effective than any of those over-the-counter fixes. Most tear trough filler will last up to 12 months.

Benefits of Tear Trough Filler

If you want to know how to combat eye bags, tear trough filler is the way to go.

Let’s talk about the benefits of this treatment and how it can help you today.

1. Look Younger, Feel Younger, Natural Results

It’s no secret that baggy eyes and tear troughs are the results of aging. By getting under-eye filler, you will naturally appear younger. Renew is committed to helping our patients achieve a natural look when it comes to their beauty and aesthetic goals.

When you look in the mirror, you can feel good about yourself and your age by not honing in on bags and wrinkles under your eyes.

2. Long-Term Results of Tear Trough Filler

As mentioned, tear trough fillers aren’t a permanent fix, but they will last you a while. Patients can go from 6 months to a year without needing to get another injection! This means you can enjoy the long-lasting effects without worrying about when you need to get it done again.

Every individual body is different, however, so it is important to realize that the length of time it works for one person may not be the same as you. That is why the range is bigger, because different people may experience results for different time lengths.

3. Immediate Results

Skin moisturizers or topical solutions take awhile to work. With tear trough fillers, you get an immediate result and don’t need to worry about taking awhile to recover! Since this is not a surgical treatment, you won’t need to spend days recovering and taking pain pills.

You can get results immediately and not have to worry about being inconvenienced by recovery time. With any hyaluronic acid filler, bruising and swelling can be a normal side effect, so we recommend getting injected at least 2 weeks prior to any big events.

4. Pain-Free

Many patients ask us if tear trough filler hurts. When you have a tear trough filler treatment, we first use a numbing agent to make the experience much more pleasant and comfortable. This means you will have to endure little to no pain during the process. You’ll come out as beautiful and radiant as ever. Our providers often use a cannula technique for their injections, which means they inject using a blunt tip cannula (not sharp). The injections therefore are safer and cause less bruising.

5. No More Bags and Wrinkles

Perhaps the biggest benefit is that you can say goodbye to those dark bags and pesky wrinkles that have plagued your eyes. Tear trough fillers are a great way to combat eye bags.

Is Tear Trough Filler Safe?

Since the treatment uses hyaluronic acid, a natural serum, it will be less invasive and bind beautifully with your body. We always do a consultation with our patient to ensure under-eye filler is the right choice for them. Oftentimes, injecting directly into the tear trough is not recommended, but rather injectable filler may be injected instead into the anterior cheek to help support the tear trough ligament and improve the appearance of tear trough hollowness. Other techniques such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections into the tear trough or laser treatments may be recommended.

It is typically recommended to avoid hyaluronic acid filler in patients with moderate to severe seasonal allergies or those who have natural swelling under their eyes.

Every individual is different, and it is important to recognize that.

Both men and women can be affected by hair loss. A huge number of people are seriously concerned about their ongoing hair loss, and their mental health is suffering as a result. For this reason, it has become increasingly common to undergo treatment to restore hair. The options are limited however. To date, the most common hair restoration methods have been:

  • Hair transplant
  • Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy

Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a therapy that is designed to restore hair previously lost. The three-step medical procedure is a relatively simple process whereby an individual’s blood is taken, processed, and reinjected back into the scalp to stimulate hair regrowth. Platelet-rich plasma therapy is a form of regenerative medicine.

It is believed that the injections not only kick natural hair growth into action, but the shaft of the hairs growing back are thicker. The injections also help to maintain the blood supply to the new follicles.

  1. Drawing Blood: There is nothing complex about this aspect. Blood is drawn traditionally, usually from the arm.
  2. Separate Components of Blood: Once drawn, the blood is placed in a centrifugal machine to separate its components. The centrifugal machine causes the blood to separate into three distinct layers; platelet-poor plasma, platelet-rich plasma, and red blood cells.
  3. Inject Into Scalp: This procedure is concerned only with the platelet-rich plasma, which is then injected into the areas of the scalp where the individual is hoping to restore hair.

PRP is a relatively new technology for hair restoration but has been used to treat injured tendons, ligaments and muscles for decades now.

PRP for Hair Loss Study

2014 study confirmed that there is sufficient evidence to support PRP to restore hair. Eleven patients who had suffered hair loss due to Androgenic Alopecia and had been unresponsive to treatment for six months were injected with PRP. Four treatments at two-week intervals were given. After three months, the patients were assessed using clinical examination, photos, patient satisfaction, and a patient hair pull test.

The results noted a significant reduction in hair loss, with the hair count increasing from an average of 71 follicles to 93 follicles with high patient satisfaction. The study concluded that PRP therapy represented a simple, safe and low-risk method for treating hair loss.

Side Effects and Risks of PRP Hair Restoration

There are relatively few side effects associated with PRP, which makes it a great alternative to a hair transplant. The most common include:

  • Bruising at the site of injection
  • Scar tissue

Although the risk is relatively low, many treatment providers will not treat those taking blood thinners, heavy smokers, or a history of alcohol or drug abuse. Other conditions that should be disclosed include cancer, chronic liver disease, chronic skin diseases, metabolic disorder, low platelet count, and thyroid disease.

PRP for Hair Loss Treatment

Under a normal treatment regime, an individual receives three treatments spaced four to six weeks apart, with one maintenance treatment every six months. There is significant variance in the cost with the initial three treatments between $1,500 to $3,000 and the maintenance treatment $600+.

PRP for Hair Loss - Hair Transplant OKC Alternative
PRP Hair Restoration

Hair Transplant OKC

The alternative to PRP is a hair transplant. A hair transplant is when a plastic surgeon or dermatologist moves hair from the back or sides of the scalp to the front or top of the head. There are two types of hair transplant:

  1. Slit grafts which contain four to ten grafts per slit
  2. Micro grafts which contain one to two grafts per slit

How does a Hair Transplant Work

There are two main techniques used to obtain the follicles used for transplant:

  • Follicular Unit Transplantation: The surgeon cuts a strip of skin up to several inches long from the back of the head. Stitches close the wound. The surgeon will then separate the strip into small sections that are implanted to create a natural look.
  • Follicular Unit Extraction: Small holes are made in the area receiving the transplant. The surgeon will then place hairs in these holes. One treatment can involve over one thousand hairs. The wounds are bandaged for several days.

Following the transplant, the recipient will often need to take pain medication, antibiotics to reduce the risk of infection, and anti-inflammatories to reduce swelling.

Common hair transplant complications include:

  • Bleeding
  • Infection
  • Swelling
  • Bruising around eyes
  • Scalp numbness or loss of sensation
  • Itching

It should also be noted that hair transplants can, on some occasions, result in an unnatural appearance.

Hair Transplant Treatment

A typical session can take up to four hours, and sometimes three to four sessions are required to achieve the required result. The wounds need to heal following one session before the next session can occur, meaning sessions are often several months apart.

Hair Transplant Cost OKC

Hair transplants typically cost between $4,000 and $15,000 to complete.

Comparison Between PRP and Hair Transplant

When the procedure for each of these treatments is evaluated, it is clear that PRP offers some real advantages over hair transplants, namely:

  1. PRP is a completely natural process
  2. There is no surgery involved
  3. There is no recovery time
  4. It is more cost-effective

Those who are candidates for a hair transplant would, in all likelihood, meet the criteria for PRP treatment. Oftentimes, PRP is used as an adjunct treatment for those who have already undergone hair transplant.

More than 18 million Americans each year get minimally invasive and surgical cosmetic procedures, and that number only continues to rise. Many people look for ways to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and deal with any sagging or loose skin. Yet, they don’t want to deal with the trauma of a surgical procedure. Laser skin tightening is the answer.

Laser skin tightening procedures that will improve the quality and appearance of your skin. Plus, increase your self-confidence! Whether you’re looking to just tighten your skin or accelerate your weight loss, you have the best option on the market available here at Renew.

In this guide, we’ll go over the V-FORM by Viora available at Renew. We’ll also contrast V-Form with CoolSculpting and truSculpt treatments available elsewhere, so you can decide which is the best treatment option for you.

What is Laser Skin Tightening?

Laser skin tightening uses lasers to tighten the skin on your body, face or neck. It’s extremely effective in tightening loose or sagging skin. It’s an ideal treatment plan for those seeking to tighten small areas of skin and/or eliminate pockets of fat in a non-invasive, pain-free way.

There may be slight discomfort or sensitivity from the heat during your procedure, but laser skin tightening is basically painless. The heat from the lasers heats up your skin, resulting in the collagen constricting. This makes your skin look firmer and tighter.

No anesthesia is required for laser skin tightening treatments. Plus, you can usually go back to your normal routine right after your procedure. Each treatment takes around 30 to 60 minutes.

V-FORM by Viora is the Best Option for Skin Tightening or Body Contouring

V-FORM, offered here at Renew, is the fastest and most effective procedure for skin tightening. It is non-invasive, painless, safe, and a clinically proven treatment for improving the quality of your skin. It is a laser alternative to other skin-tightening procedures available elsewhere.

If you’ve lost a lot of weight over a short period of time from surgery, diet or childbirth, you likely have some loose or sagging skin. This can be discouraging because while you may feel great in your new body, you still have extra skin that doesn’t make you feel in the best shape.

Body contouring with V-FORM can help treat any stretch marks, extra folds and sagging skin that you have after rapid weight loss. It can treat fat accumulation in the underarm area, lower face, flanks or abdomen.

The CORE technology will firm and tighten your skin, leaving you with a smoother appearance. It heats up your skin’s elastin fibers and collagen, causing the fibers to shrink. V-FORM restores your skin’s natural elasticity, giving you smoother and tighter skin.

What You Need to Know About V-FORM

V-FORM utilizes radiofrequency energy and a vacuum to help reduce cellulite and provide body contouring treatments. The technology targets fat pockets throughout the body to increase metabolism and reduce fat cell volume. These two aspects work together to increase lymphatic drainage and local blood circulation.

V-FORM is one of the fastest treatments available for skin tightening. Depending upon the area of the body being targeted, your body fat can be reduced in as little as five sessions. Schedule a consult and Dr. Julie Shelley or Nurse Jessie Hammock can give you more targeted information.

One of the best things about V-FORM is there is no downtime after a procedure. You can immediately return to your daily lifestyle after your treatments. Also, no anesthesia is required to undergo treatments.

At Renew, we will personalize your treatment plan to your specifications. V-FORM is also faster than other skin tightening procedures. You can fit a 20-30 minute session into your lunch break.

Change the way you feel about yourself by improving the quality of your skin with V-FORM. This risk-free procedure will make all the difference in how you look, improving your self-confidence.

CoolSculpting OKC

Another nonsurgical and noninvasive option for body contouring is CoolSculpting. Unlike Viora that is a cutting-edge laser treatment, CoolSculpting places the body’s fat between two panels that cool it to a freezing temperature.

The dead and frozen fat cells are excreted from the body via the liver during several weeks of CoolSculpting treatments. You will experience the full results within three months.

For each area you want to target, it will take up to one hour. Coolsculpting takes twice as long as V-FORM body contouring treatments available at Renew.

Additionally, unlike Viora treatments, you may experience some pain, aching, or stinging for up to two weeks after a CoolSculpting treatment. You may also have bruising, swelling or skin sensitivity for a short amount of time with Coolsculpting.

truSculpt OKC

truSculpt uses heat to melt your fat cells and contour your body. It utilizes monopolar radiofrequency to heat up the fat cells, causing them to die off and be eliminated by your body.

With truSculpt, the full impact of the procedure will hit around 12 weeks. You may experience some sensitivity and redness after your treatment.

truSculpt is designed for people who have small problem areas of fat, not those who seek a major fat reduction. It’s supposed to give people the finishing touches after they’ve used diet and exercise to lose weight.

Microneedling With PRP

What Is Microneedling with PRP?

This cosmetic treatment stimulates new collagen production by rolling tiny needles over the surface of your skin and applying platelets from your blood. It is also referred to as Collagen Induction Therapy. It is a very effective treatment to minimize the signs of aging. Additionally, it can also be effective in treating scarring from acne or certain forms of hyperpigmentation.

PRP (i.e., Platelet Rich Plasma) is plasma derived from your own blood that has a higher concentration of platelets than other parts of the blood. A syringe of blood will be drawn typically from your arm and then put into a centrifuge to separate the plasma from other parts of the blood. Because platelets help with healing due to growth factors and proteins found in the platelets, adding PRP makes the microneedling treatment much more effective

Although this is one of those cosmetic treatments that sounds a little strange to some, the results are great for someone that wants a minimally invasive treatment option for their skin’s hyperpigmentation, scarring, or wrinkles.

What Can You Expect with Microneedling?

The provider will use a microneedling tool such as the SkinPen to gently roll over and prick the top layer of your skin. This will create tiny holes in your skin through which the provider can apply the PRP.

When the provider adds the PRP, your collagen production and healing process should increase.

Does Microneedling Hurt?

Microneedling is a pretty painless procedure overall. A topical numbing cream is applied to the area prior to the treatment. You might experience a little discomfort, but avoiding products that make your skin sensitive before the treatment, like exfoliants or acids, can help minimize any pain.

How Many Microneedling Treatments Are Required?

Typically, a series of 3 microneedling treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart, is recommended for the best results. For patients suffering from acne scarring, oftentimes 4-6 treatments might be needed.

Diamond Glow Facial

Our Diamond Glow Facial, which is also known as a hydradermabrasion procedure, helps to exfoliate the outer layer of your skin. Beauty treatments that focus on exfoliation aim to remove surface-level, dull skin cells to reveal fresher skin underneath.

This treatment is different from microdermabrasion because your provider will use a customized solution with oxygen instead of microcrystals.

The results might be similar to microdermabrasion, but hydradermabrasion is also able to hydrate and improve circulation to the skin. After the removal of the dead skin cells, your skin could experience an increase in collagen production as well.

In addition to reducing fine lines and wrinkles, a Diamond Glow facial is also effective in treating hyperpigmentation, pore congestion, sun damage, dryness, oily skin, and uneven skin texture.

What Can You Expect with Diamond Glow Facials?

The provider will use a diamond tip device to exfoliate, extract, and infuse a customized serum into the skin.

The device used has different treatment tips each designed for a different skin type and texture. A variety of topical solutions will be applied to your skin as well for maximum effectiveness.

Does a Diamond Glow Facial Hurt?

The Diamond Glow treatment is not painful and can actually be very relaxing.

How Many Diamond Glow Treatments Are Required?

To jumpstart your new skin, a series of 3 treatments is recommended 4 weeks apart. For maintenance, we recommend a Diamond Glow every 2 months. However, even just one Diamond Glow facial will rejuvenate your skin for up to 6 weeks!

Chemical Peel OKC

A chemical peel is a popular treatment for people that are looking for brighter, clearer skin.

Chemical peels are offered at different strength levels, so some treatments can be done quickly when you have a break from work while others may require more recovery time.

Chemical peels are an extremely popular option for any person that wants to get rid of wrinkles, acne scars, or sun damage. They are one of the most effective non-invasive treatments you can get.

What Can You Expect From A Chemical Peel?

Chemical peels use chemicals (mainly acids) to deeply exfoliate your skin.

The acids applied by the provider will remove an even amount of dull, damaged, or dead skin cells across your skin. The types of acids used will be different depending on your skin type, your skin concerns and other factors. Examples of acids used in chemical peels include glycolic acid, lactic acid, salicylic acid, retinoic acid, and trichloroacetic acid (TCA).

The skin you can see on your face is the epidermis, and the dermis is what sits right underneath it. If you choose a stronger peel, the treatment goes deeper into the skin.

Does A Chemical Peel Hurt?

If you opt for a stronger level of chemicals, you could have red or even scabbing skin. We know this sounds scary, but rest assured that it is normal for the stronger treatment levels. Once it heals, you won’t regret it for even a second!

If you decide to choose a lower level of strength, you won’t experience much more than some temporary redness and sensitivity.

How Many Chemical Peel Treatments Are Required?

The number of chemical peels recommended greatly depends on the skin concern being treated. Light chemical peels can typically be performed once a month. For acne-prone patients, light chemical peels may be recommended even as frequently as every 1-2 weeks until the desired treatment outcome is reached.

Medium strength peels can be performed every 4-6 months, or 2-3 times per year. Deep chemical peels are typically recommended once every 1-3 years.

Hyaluronic Acid Filler

These are a popular type of dermal fillers that reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

Because hyaluronic acid is part of our skin already, the hyaluronic acid in the filler attracts more water to the surface of your skin. This will give your skin a full, plump look that makes you look more youthful!

Hyaluronic acid in any form is important for a hydrated skin complexion, and it is essential for the skin to retain water. As a result, these fillers are useful anywhere on your face.

Beware, however, of the “Hyaluron Pen” as this device is not FDA-approved and can be very unsafe. We have performed correction work for many of our patients after being treated by such a device. This device and several others like it, are being marketed on social media and across the internet as an “innovative” new injection device that can inject hyaluronic acid filler into the skin without using a needle. There are a tremendous amount of Hyaluron Pen gone wrong cases that cause us great concern.

What Can You Expect with Hyaluronic Acid Filler?

The provider will inject the hyaluronic acid through a needle or a cannula. After the needle or cannula is in the correct skin layer, the provider will simply inject the appropriate amount of the gel into your skin!

Does Hyaluronic Acid Filler Hurt?

A lot of fillers are mixed with lidocaine, so you luckily won’t feel much during the treatment. Topical numbing agents are often used prior to the treatment to increase patient comfort. It can sometimes be a little painful, but that pain doesn’t last long.

How Many Hyaluronic Acid Treatments Are Required?

Hyaluronic acid filler can last anywhere from 6 months – 2 years, depending on the type of filler and area treated.

Laser Skin Resurfacing

Laser skin resurfacing removes skin layers with exact, uniform precision. The new skin cells will form, and they will have a much younger look than the removed layers.

Laser skin resurfacing is a great option if you want a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that targets wrinkles and signs of aging. This treatment can be used around the mouth, eyes, forehead, or your entire face and neck.

If you decide to get your whole face treated, the provider will likely numb the parts of your face that are being treated.

Opus Plasma is a newer type of laser skin resurfacing treatment we offer at Renew Wellness & Aesthetics that utilizes state of the art technology. Because Opus Plasma uses plasma energy instead of light energy (like other lasers including the fraxel laser), it smooths the top surface of the skin and heats the lower layers, causing them to produce more collagen.

What Can You Expect From Laser Resurfacing?

The provider will provide the numbing agent as needed, and then move the device over your treatment area. After the treatment, you may need to apply hydrating ointment to help with hydration and healing. You can expect one to two days of a sunburned look but generally can resume normal activities quickly.

Does Laser Resurfacing Hurt?

We use a topical pharmaceutical numbing cream to alleviate any discomfort. We also adjust settings on the device to alleviate any pain or discomfort. Most patients report minimal pain with Opus Plasma laser.

Unlike a Fraxel laser treatment which can take up to an hour, the Opus Plasma laser treatment only takes about 15 minutes!

How Many Opus Laser Treatments Are Required?

We typically recommend a series of three treatments, spaced 3-4 weeks apart for best results. However, even just one Opus Plasma laser treatment will create beautiful skin rejuvenation results!

Botox and Dysport

You cannot have a list of popular beauty treatments to help you achieve a non-surgical face lift without mentioning Botox and Dysport.

These are some of the most commonly requested treatments, with 7.44 million procedures completed in 2019 alone. Since then, their popularity has only increased!

Botox and Dysport relax your muscles in place to minimize wrinkles and fine lines. Because you aren’t able to use those muscles as you did before the treatment, the wrinkles don’t crease like they usually would.

We have a complete guide to the difference between Botox and Filler to help you determine which one is right for you.

What Can You Expect From Botox or Fillers?

Both of these treatments are injections, so the provider will administer them with a needle. You’ll typically have targeted areas with this treatment, so the provider will focus on those areas.

Does Botox Hurt?

Some people say that the injection itself feels like a small sting. It is hardly noticeable and goes away as soon as it comes on. After the treatment, you shouldn’t notice any type of pain.

How Often Are Botox or Dysport Treatments Needed?

So, what’s the difference between Botox and fillers (or dermal fillers)? Both are cosmetic treatments used to treat wrinkles and other imperfections.

But, where Botox blocks nerve receptors, fillers serve to lift and fill problem areas.

Over one million people get Botox injections every year. Of that one million, 90 percent are women reaching middle age status.

It is no secret that Botox and fillers have become a staple in the plastic surgery world. They are both non-invasive procedures that fix wrinkles, sagging skin, and have proven effective in reducing headaches, treating teeth grinding and reducing sweating!

Each treatment has its unique uses and desired results, though. That makes choosing between the two difficult, especially for a first-time candidate. If you are looking for aesthetic medicine in Oklahoma City, you probably have lots of questions on whether Botox or filler is right for you. With these Botox and filler guides, you can make an informed decision.

In this guide, you’ll learn all about the most common areas of the body for Botox and filler injections and benefits of both.

As always, we invite you to schedule a free consultation with us at Renew Wellness & Aesthetics to discuss your unique needs and to determine whether Botox or fillers would help you meet your aesthetic goals.

The Botox Guide

Have you tried every cream on the market to treat your wrinkles and problem areas with no results? Botox offers longer-lasting effects proven to tighten up the face.

What does Botox do?

Before receiving injections, you’ll want to know how this process works. Botox consists of a neurotoxin called the Botulinum Toxin Type A. When injected into an area of the body, this toxin serves as a muscle relaxer.

Botox is only one type of injection you can consider. There are several kinds of injections involving the botulinum toxin, all of which are brand names that provide different results.

How long does Botox last?

Botox treats wrinkles caused by repeated muscle contractions in the face. When injected, the Botox serum relaxes those facial muscles by blocking your nerve signals.

Botox injections help to reduce and minimize wrinkles and age lines. Effects last for about 3-4 months.

Dysport vs Botox

Dysport is a neuromodulator which, like Botox, is derived from the botulinum toxin. However, its formula (abobotulinumtoxin A ) is slightly different, containing smaller particles and fewer protein buffers.

This injection, much like Botox, treats moderate to severe cases of wrinkles. What makes Dysport different is the concentration of protein molecules.

Patients may see results more quickly with Dysport, perhaps by a few days. Dysport spreads more easily than BOTOX. As a result, sometimes a broader area can be treated with fewer Dysport injections. This can be an advantage if a broader area is being treated.

Where to inject Botox?

When you think Botox, your mind goes to crow’s feet, forehead lines, and laugh lines. But you can use Botox outside of these common problem areas.

You can receive Botox injections almost everywhere on the body that experiences sagging or wrinkles. In fact, Botox has a few surprising benefits other than cosmetic treatments.

Botox Upper Face

The upper facial muscles are a primary concern among women mid-20s and older. Laughing, frowning, and living your life causes those annoying muscle contractions that lead to wrinkles in the face.

Botox Frown Lines

Glabellar lines (frown lines) form vertically between your eyebrows. These are also known as “11s”. You may not realize how many muscles you use in your face until these lines begin to pop up, making you look upset or angry. Botox and Dysport are common choices of injections to wipe away frown lines in a subtle manner.

Forehead Lines

These lines are slightly different from frown lines. When you develop forehead lines, you may look more surprised than angry or sad.

Instead of being vertical, forehead lines form horizontally across your skin as you age. Some common causes of increased forehead lines are lifestyle choices such as too much sunbathing or smoking.

Bunny Lines

‘Bunny lines’ may sound adorable, but they may be cuter on actual bunnies than us humans. If you wrinkle up your nose, you can see where bunny lines may develop. A bit of Botox on either side of the nose can smooth these wrinkles. Injections for bunny lines are a bit tricky, though.

Remember, Botox causes relaxation of muscles. If the Botox injection goes wrong, it can affect your smile. That’s why it’s necessary to have an experienced Botox medical professional treat your bunny lines.

Botox Around Eyes

The next most common problem area for women is the eyes. We express so much emotion using just our eyes and the muscles surrounding them. When we laugh, our eyes squint.

When we act surprised, they widen. All of these expressions are working the muscles surrounding the eyes. Botox injections can soften and even re-shape your eyes, lifting them to create a more desirable, youthful look.

Botox Brow Lift

Separate from frown lines and forehead lines, your eyebrows can begin to sag. The eyebrow muscles weaken, loosen, and will dip down in an unflattering manner.

Botox injections can tighten up those eyebrows, helping to raise them back up. Essentially, you are getting an eyebrow lift without the trouble of surgery.

Botox for Hooded Eyes

Brow droop can lead to something called hooded eyes. This condition is where the skin over the eyes dips down due to the weakened brow muscles.

Hooded eyes make you look older as it gives off the appearance of wrinkles or saggy skin. To rid yourself of these horizontal hoods, you could have surgery, but most people want to avoid such an intense operation.

Get around the trouble of going under by having an expert carefully inject your skin with Botox. If you catch it early on, you may be able to avoid surgery to fix hooded eyes down the line.

You cannot have injections directly into your eyelids, though. Botox too close to your eyes would risk brow or lid drooping.

Instead, much of the same method for eyebrow lifting is used to keep your eyes from sloughing downward.

Crows Feet Botox

Crows feet are one of the top reasons why people seek out Botox treatment. Crows feet are those horizontal lines that branch out from the outer corner of your eyes.

Any facial expression that causes the eyes to squint, such as a smile, will eventually lead to some form of crow’s feet. They are most common in older women.

That’s why Botox injections are sought out for the upper cheeks to stretch and smooth the skin. Botox will reduce the appearance of lines permeating out from the eyes.

Botox Under Eyes

Underneath the eyes may not be at the top of your list of Botox treatment areas. Consider the prevalence of bags under the eyes, though.

Bags may seem like a common side effect of not getting enough rest for a few nights. The fact is, bags that form under the eyes can become chronic.

Constant stress and lack of sleep will not only create dark circles. The skin under the eyes can begin to droop, too. Baggy eyes are also a result of aging as the elasticity in our skin softens.

When this happens, the skin hangs down, creating folds. If you seek Botox for under the eyes, this requires an injection administered to the muscles controlling your lower eyelids.

Botox Lower Face

The upper face is not the only part of the head that will experience cosmetic issues. Wrinkles and loose skin can begin to affect the lips, chin, jawline, and more.

Lipstick Lines

Having beautiful lips is one of the top cosmetic concerns for women, whether for fillers or Botox. Lipstick lines spider out from around the lips as women age.

They get their name because lipstick tends to bleed out into the vertical folds. These lines are most common in people who smoke because the lips extend outward to smoke a cigarette.

However, these lines can pop up due to several other factors, such as smiling, kissing, or any other emotion using the lip muscles. Because the resilience around the lips weakens over time, Botox injections are suitable to treat lipstick lines.

Lip Flip

Lip flip is a procedure where we inject neurotoxin such as Botox or Dysport into your cupid’s bow and close to the corners of your mouth. This quick and easy procedure allows people the option for full lips without getting fillers. The serum relaxes the muscles in the lips, causing the inside of the lipto  flip outward. There are lots of benefits of Botox lip flip and lip filler.

Chin Dents

As we age, certain areas of our face experience advanced tissue loss. The chin is subject to deteriorating tissue.

When this happens, a dimpling effect dapples the chin. This is commonly referred to as “pebbly chin.” The skin will look loose or like permanent creases are covering the surface area. Botox will smooth this area out, leaving a youthful, elastic effect.

Botox for Jawline Tightening

Women covet sharpened jawlines, but, as we age, the skin starts to loosen around there, too. Sometimes, this creates the effect of a weakened jawline or the appearance of having no jawline at all.

Botox injections around your jaw will enhance the natural bone structure underneath your skin.

Botox for Neck Wrinkles

Gravity takes its toll on your neck most of all. Not only is the neck area prone to lines and wrinkles, but increased sagging too.

As our skin loses collagen with age, the neck wilts downward, folding over itself. There are two types of lines that people are likely to develop: horizontal and vertical.

Horizontal lines occur due to simple aging whereas vertical lines often result due to increased physical activity, such as exercise.

Some people seek out surgery for a neck lift, entailing the cutting, removal and stretching of the skin. If you catch your necklines and folds ahead of time, then you might be able to save the area with a series of small Botox injections.

Botox for Other Areas of the Body

Botox is often associated with the face, but it doesn’t have to stop there. It might surprise you to learn Botox can work wonders on other, larger areas of the body.

Botox in Armpits

Botox injections in the armpits can help stop unwanted underarm sweating. Typically, around 50 units of Botox is injected into each armpit to stop underarm sweating. These results can last up to 6-9 months in some patients.

Botox for Sweating

Hyperhidrosis, or excess sweating in the hands and/or feet, can be an issue for many men and women. Botox can be injected into the palms of the hands or soles of the feet to stop this issue.

Other Benefits of Botox

In this guide, we have learned that Botox can wipe away wrinkles, eliminate lines, and give you a more natural look. You now know all of the areas on the face and body that you can get Botox.

But did you know Botox has other benefits other than keeping us looking vibrant and beautiful? There are several different advantages to Botox outside of cosmetic treatment.

Botox for Headaches

Believe it or not, but you can use Botox to treat migraines and headaches. Botox professionals inject the serum near the same pain receptors that induce headaches.

The serum relaxes muscles and paralyzes nerves. So, the pain signal you’d usually experience during a headache cannot reach your brain. Thus, it works kind of like a pain-relieving medication.

Botox for headaches and migraines will take a few treatments before you stop experiencing headaches. Afterward, it lasts around 12-16 weeks before you need another treatment.

Botox for Teeth Grinding

Studies from Pain and Research Management show that Botox can help teeth grinding (bruxism) in adults. A stiff jaw could be a sign that you are grinding your teeth at night.

You might not realize it, but your jaw might tense up while you sleep. Bruxism leads to headaches, worn tooth enamel, and jaw pain.

Treating your teeth grinding with a few injections of Botox will relax your jaw. An expert will provide a few injections near your mouth and jawline, reducing clenching.

Since teeth grinding leads to headaches, you could be treating two painful scenarios with one easy fix. By fixing your bruxism, you could also alleviate pain from accompanying tension headaches.

Botox for Excessive Sweating

Botox can block neurotransmitters when injected into a part of the body with numerous sweat glands. Due to this, many people seek Botox to manage excessive sweating. You could have Botox injected into your hands and feet to cure a condition called hyperhidrosis.

Hyperhidrosis is where your sweat glands work overtime in your palms and the bottoms of your feet. Botox cuts off these sweat glands so they cannot emit perspiration. Managing sweat is also why people get Botox in other areas of their bodies, such as their armpits or scalps.

Botox for Acne

Because Botox blocks sweat glands, it can also manage acne. When we sweat, it collects in our pores with other bacteria and dirt.

Pimples and acne arise due to those clogged pores. With tiny Botox injections, you ensure that sweat can longer get into your pores. You are also blocking your body from creating the oils that lead to a breakout.

Botox Treats Neurological Disorders

While Botox is for cosmetic purposes, it does have its advantages in the medical field. Since these injections relax the muscles, that means they can help people who suffer from neurological disorders.

Localized Botox injections sometimes ease disorders revolving around muscle spasms and motor tics. Botox does not cure these conditions, though.

It mainly serves as a therapeutic device to help patients suffering from strokes, drooling, or twitching of the muscles.

The Dermal Fillers Guide

Fillers, also known as dermal fillers, have a gel-like substance that plumps up when injected into the face and various parts of the body. The FDA has approved dermal fillers to be safe to use.

They consist of:

  • Collagen
  • Hyaluronic Acid
  • A temporary gel solution

Dermal fillers, like Botox, are temporary solutions for fixing cosmetic problem areas. Collagen contains properties designed to reabsorb back into your body after a while.

Hyaluronic Acid fillers last roughly 6-12 months. After which, you will require another round of treatment.

Types of Dermal Fillers

Different injections serve different purposes when speaking of dermal fillers. Juvederm and Restylane are the biggest names in the filler family.

Restylane has been around since 2003, while Juvederm got its FDA approval back in 2006. These two brand name injections branch out to incorporate several products within the filler family.

Each of the Juvederm and Restylane fillers offer a unique approach to cosmetic treatments. If you need injections for a specific part of the face, your filler provider will point you in the right direction.

JUVÉDERM XC

Juvederm solutions contain an acid that we already have in our bodies. It’s called Hyaluronic acid, and we produce it to cushion our joints and tissues.

Because of this natural ingredient, there is no skin testing involved for Juvederm injections. That said, our skin loses its capabilities to produce this acid as we get older.

That is where Juvederm fillers come into play. This filler is best for cosmetic issues involving the lips, marionette lines, and smoker lines.

Juvederm’s primary purpose is to restore volume in parts of the face that have become dilapidated. There are several types of injections within the Juvederm family.

JUVÉDERM ULTRA XC

Juvederm Ultra XC works magic for clients who have reasonably thin lips or whose lips have thinned with age. This filler lasts up to one year and is best for people looking for larger lips.

Your lips will take on a full, revitalized, yet natural look. Juvederm Ultra XC is also an optimal choice for people who have severe lines around their nasolabial folds or “smile lines.”

JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA XC

Juvederm Volbella XC is another lip filler that will plump up your lips while filling in vertical lip lines. The result of Volbella XC is a softer lip line lasting up to one year.

JUVÉDERM VOLUMA XC

If your face has begun to sink with age, Juvederm Voluma XC is the way to go. These are fillers primarily used to inflate areas of the face that have lost their resilience.

When we get older, our cheeks can look hollow or become flat, and the skin begins to sag. Juvederm Voluma XC injects deeply into your cheeks, bringing your mid-facial area back to life for up to two years. This filler can also create beautiful results when injected into the chin and jaw.

RESTYLANE

If your face has begun to sink with age, Juvederm Voluma XC is the way to go. These are fillers primarily used to inflate areas of the face that have lost their resilience.

When we get older, our cheeks can look hollow or become flat, and the skin begins to sag. Juvederm Voluma XC injects deeply into your cheeks, bringing your mid-facial area back to life for up to two years. This filler can also create beautiful results when injected into the chin and jaw.

Where Can You Inject Dermal Fillers?

Different injections serve different purposes when speaking of dermal fillers. Juvederm and Restylane are the biggest names in the filler family.

Restylane has been around since 2003, while Juvederm got its FDA approval back in 2006. These two brand name injections branch out to incorporate several products within the filler family.

Each of the Juvederm and Restylane fillers offer a unique approach to cosmetic treatments. If you need injections for a specific part of the face, your filler provider will point you in the right direction.

Eyebrow Filler

With aging comes the deterioration of bone, affecting the structure of our eyebrows. If you have eyebrow tissue that has dissolved, leaving your brows weakened, dermal fillers can be a wonderful fix.

Fillers will raise the area, lifting your brows to their original, natural height. Fillers can also widen the eyebrows. Lately, big brows have started to trend.

If you have thinner brows, plumping the ridge might give you the appearance of having a fuller ridge-line. Fillers will also improve the skin around the brows, making it tighter and more youthful.

Frown Line Filler

Where Botox can help frown lines, many specialists will recommend dermal fillers as the best option. Fillers don’t just help tighten the skin but can also lift and stretch it as the gel-like solution expands underneath. Frown lines will disappear with fillers and stay away for a year.

Under Eye Filler

As with frown lines, fillers are the best solution for under the eyes as well. The area beneath our lower eyelids called our “tear troughs” tends to become thin over time.

The skin can create a sunken, papery look that most people want to avoid. Fillers will add that collagen back into your skin, lifting those hollow dips back into place.

Fillers don’t contain the same toxins as Botox, so the injection near or around your eyes won’t threaten nerve damage. For this reason, fillers can be an optimal choice for revitalizing your eyes. It is important to see an experienced injector for tear trough filler, as not every patient is a candidate for filler in this area.

Nose Fold Filler

The skin around our noses will decrease in volume due to loss of moisture and acid. By losing these essential parts of the skin, your skin will start to crease and fold near the nasal area.

These grooves begin near the nose and span out horizontally from the mouth. When you smile, nasolabial folds pronounce even more. While the loss of moisture in the skin can result in these lines and grooves, sagging cheekbones may also be the culprit.

If an aesthetic medical provider suspects your cheekbones are to blame, they might suggest additional augmentation. By filling in and lifting your cheeks, you may see that that your nasolabial folds stay at bay.

Cheek Filler

Bone loss in our cheekbone structure is a problem most women 35 and up will address via fillers. High apples of the cheeks and sharp edges radiate youth.

Since cheekbones are the most common problem areas for women, you might wonder what causes cheekbone loss and sagging. Collagen loss is the main culprit, but several other lifestyle factors add to drooping cheeks.

A few injections of Restylane or Juvederm will leave your cheeks looking naturally higher and sculpted.

Smart Phone Face

In this day in age, we are always looking down at a smart device, be it a tablet, computer, or cellphone. Casting our faces downward at electronic devices will cause gravity to take its toll. Craning your head at the slightest angle leads to weakened cheekbones, a weak chin, and higher chances of developing wrinkles.

Too Many Sweets

Some experts theorize that eating too many sugary foods will inhibit your body from creating collagen. Sugar can also affect your skin’s elasticity. If you have a sweet tooth, this could be one reason why your skin and cheekbones are deteriorating.

Not Enough Fatty Foods

On the other hand, you may not be eating enough foods high in fat. Reasons for this could be a low-fat diet, or you may be someone who eats healthy regularly.

Either way, the body needs a certain amount of fat to maintain acids like Omega-3 and Omega-6. These fatty acids are what preserve skin elasticity. If you have recently cut out fat from your diet or don’t eat it at all, you could be at risk for weakened cheekbones.

Drastic Weight Loss

Have you lost a vast amount of weight in a short amount of time? If so, you may be depriving your body of necessary nutrients and vitamins.

Once the weight falls off, the skin can hang loose in certain areas, including the face. If you have lost weight but need to tighten up the skin around your cheeks, small filler injections will help.

Not Enough Sleep

Getting a good night’s rest won’t just leave you feeling refreshed. Sleeping helps your body repair itself. That includes your skin.

If you aren’t sleeping, then your skin isn’t getting the chance to fix itself. The skin around your cheekbones, and the rest of your face, will begin to thin and wrinkle.

Marionette Lines

Naturally, an image of a puppet comes to mind when you hear the term marionette lines. These lines get their name because they form around the mouth and laterally move down toward the chin. With a few filler injections, those curves will fill out in no time.

Lips and Vertical Lip Lines Filler

Along with cheeks, lips are the most popular part of the face for dermal fillers. Women with thin or thinning lips will often seek fillers to create a fuller look.

You can get injections that plump your lips slightly, giving a more natural look, or fill in your lips so that they look poutier. Fillers are great for vertical lip lines, too. Where you can inject Botox around your mouth, fillers can pinpoint each vertical line and fill it in.

Scar Filler

Dermal fillers aren’t only used to plump lips, cheeks, and the chin. If you have scarring, they can fill in those marks.

Many people use fillers for acne pocks. These are scars caused by extreme facial acne. They are often deep divots in the skin that are noticeable to the naked eye.

For scarring, fillers injected directly into the scar will plump it up so that it matches the level with the rest of your skin.

You don’t have to stick to just acne scars, though. There have been people who get dermal fillers for other, noticeable scars on their bodies, especially their hands. The great thing about fillers is the plumping effect can fix mild to moderate scarring in a flash.

Are Dermal Fillers Right for You?

As with Botox, most people should be a candidate for fillers. But, there are always exceptions to the rule. When considering fillers, talk to your specialist and a doctor.

A candidate for dermal fillers is someone who:

  • Is healthy
  • Doesn’t smoke
  • Has moderate to severe collagen loss in the face
  • Has cheekbones that sag or are weak
  • Has thin or thinning lips
  • Will properly treat skin to keep it looking healthy

A poor candidate for dermal fillers is someone who:

  • Has a skin infection in the area needing treatment
  • Has skin that reacts/breaks out easily to substances

If allergens are a concern, you can always ask for an allergy test before getting dermal fillers. Testing yourself for allergies will prevent any reactions from occurring after the procedure.

By Dr. Julie Shelley

In the past several months, our office has seen a large increase in the number of patients coming to see us for correction work after being injected with the “Hyaluron Pen.” This device, and several others like it, are being marketed on social media and across the internet as an “innovative” new injection device that can “painlessly” inject hyaluronic acid filler into the skin without using a needle. It is commonly being used across our state for lip injections. There are so many Hyaluron Pen gone wrong cases that cause us great concern.

At Renew Wellness & Aesthetics, we pride ourselves on being educated and knowledgeable about the newest aesthetic techniques and treatments. New trends are constantly emerging in the beauty industry. Oftentimes, new treatments lack evidence to support their safety or efficacy. I firmly believe in sharing knowledge with our patients to help everyone make safe and informed decisions about their health and aesthetic treatments.

Hyaluron Pen Filler – How does it work?

The Hyaluron Pen (also known as hyaluronic acid pen) is a small handheld medical device that is used to administer hyaluronic acid fillers into the face. This “pen” was originally created for diabetic patients to offer a needle-free, pain-free way to deliver insulin into the subcutaneous tissue.

The Hyaluron Pen works by creating enough pressure external to the tissue to “push” hyaluronic acid filler into the skin without using a needle. In Oklahoma, it is most commonly being used for lip injections.

Is the Hyaluron Pen safe?

No.

The Hyaluron Pen is currently NOT FDA-approved in the United States. In fact, it is currently being marketed and sold illegally online. Recently, the Canadian Health Department made a strict warning against the device to its residents, stating that the device may pose health risks.

Potential risks of the Hyaluron Pen include:

Who can legally operate a Hyaluron Pen?

In the U.S., no state has publicly commented on these types of devices. Yet, administering medication (no matter the method used) is considered “the practice of medicine.”

Per the American Medical Spa Association, these needle-free injection devices should be treated the same as traditional syringes of filler. In the state of Oklahoma, in order to legally use a Hyaluron Pen, individuals would need to possess the same license required to inject using a needle and syringe. These licensed individuals include: Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Physician’s Assistants, or Registered Nurses.

What type of hyaluronic acid devices ARE FDA approved?

Both cannula and needle techniques are proven to be safe injection techniques. Both are FDA-approved in the US. These techniques allow the injector to place fillers in very specific planes and depths of tissue to allow for a desired aesthetic result. There are several brands of Hyaluronic acid fillers in the US. Juvederm and Restylane are two mainstream. Both are available for medical professionals to purchase through licensed pharmaceutical companies. At Renew Wellness & Aesthetics, we ONLY purchase hyaluronic acid filler through these FDA-approved companies.

Hyaluron Pens only “push” a thin hyaluronic acid filler into the superficial layer of tissue where it disperses in a very non-specific way. This makes it more likely to produce an undesired aesthetic result.

Avoid the Hyaluronic Pen Lip Filler.

Hyaluronic Pen devices are currently being illegally sold and marketed to the public. This “treatment” is often used by unlicensed individuals. We have seen several patients in our office with undesired results from these devices. Patients should be extremely wary about having a treatment performed with one of these devices. Further, you should be aware of the risks associated with the outcome. This device has caused numerous, documented medical issues across the globe.

We strongly recommend only seeing a medical provider who purchases their filler (and all products for that matter!) directly and LEGALLY from pharmaceutical companies that provide FDA- approved products. It may save your face (literally)!

Hey you, yes you. The one that’s reading this right now. Wait, don’t scurry to find the backspace button. We know that having a low libido might be embarrassing for some, but you’re not the only one that wants to know how to increase sex drive. Many suffer from having a low sex drive at some point in their lives.

We know talking about it might seem taboo, but at Renew Wellness & Aesthetics, we’re here to help.

It is normal for your sexual desire to go through natural peaks and declines, but what do you do if your desire drops for a long period of time? What if you cannot seem to “engage” like you used to, and you find you want to increase your sex drive?

Many factors can contribute to this, and this article will talk about several ways to increase libido and reverse low sex drive in women and men. Plus, it’ll give you an overview of many of the sexual wellness treatments available at Renew.

The O Shot (for women) or P Shot (for men)

So, what is the point of having sex if nobody gets to the peak of their enjoyment in the end? If you’re struggling not only with a low libido but also issues with achieving an orgasm, you might want to look into getting the O shot for women or the P shot for men.

This might not be a solution that you’ve heard of before, but it’s one of the many holistic remedies that people are now turning to when it comes to increasing their libido or treating erectile dysfunction.

Renew Wellness & Aesthetics is an O shot and P shot provider in Oklahoma City. We walk our patients through the process of this non-invasive procedure and ensure it is the right treatment. Here’s how PRP injections for the O shot and P shot work.

PRP injections take the platelets from your body and use them to increase your function sexually.

The O shot, or “Orgasm shot”, promises to increase arousal. Patients report better orgasms and increased libido after injecting platelets into the vaginal tissue. Also, the procedure is non-surgical, so you can rest assured of no surgery-related problems going forward.

Similarly, the P shot, or “Priapus” shot, works by injecting the penis with similar platelets. It assists with erectile dysfunction by repairing the blood vessels and other internal organs in the area. With the P shot, a man’s sex drive can thrive as it once did.

Blood is taken from the body and then it is spun in a centrifuge to separate the concentrate of the platelets. The platelets are then injected back into the body where healing needs to happen. This process stimulates the repair of cells around the area where the platelets get injected. Therefore, if the injection happens in areas such as the vaginal or penile tissues, this can lead to rejuvenation in those areas.

While it may sound strange, it’s been used to remedy a number of sexual issues that a person might be struggling with, including low libido, erectile dysfunction or orgasm disorders.

This type of treatment can help immensely when it comes to both clitoral and vaginal rejuvenation and ED in men.

Hormone Replacement Providers

The change to your libido may be due to a hormonal imbalance. For women, your body goes through a variety of changes beginning from when you hit puberty all the way through menopause. Because of these changes, you experience hormone imbalance, vaginal dryness, and loss of interest in sex.

But there’s a remedy for that, and it’s hormone replacement therapy. Studies have shown that hormone replacement therapy helps women rediscover the interest they’d thought they lost in their sexual desires.

How does this work, you might be wondering? HRT helps to reduce hot flashes, improves sleep, and increases vaginal secretions.

We realize that patients have lots of questions about hormone replacement therapy. Dr. Shelley offers consultations to address each patient’s specific questions and also has an extensive article on the topic that answers many commonly asked questions about hormone replacement therapy.

vFit PLUS Therapy

Another option to encourage the growth of your sex drive is through the use of intimate-wellness tools. One example of these multifunctional devices includes Joylux’s vFit and vFit PLUS.

The vFit PLUS is a device that you insert into the vagina and allow to promote the body’s natural healing over several sessions. The vFit PLUS device uses many pieces of technology, including:

  • Powerful red LEDs stimulate a positive response from the body that is natural and safe
  • Sonic vibrations stimulate the intimate areas of the body to promote healing via different vibration modes
  • Thermal energy gently warms the vaginal tissues to encourage the body to allow blood to flow through the region
  • A specially formulated photonic gel can enhance the comfort of the vFit PLUS as well as its stimulating qualities

Both the vFit and the vFit PLUS are available at Renew, with the second one having advanced features. These include additional levels of sonic vibration as well as longer red light therapy sessions.

After three treatments per week for eight weeks, the device should have a noticeable effect on the surrounding tissue. It should improve confidence, increase sensitivity, and exemplify your intimate wellness.

Combatting Vaginal Dryness with ReVive

ReVive is another revolutionary new therapy intended to combat low sex drive in women. It uses radio waves that it broadcasts toward the labia’s skin surface to encourage moisture to form and promote hydration of the skin cells.

These treatments are usually scheduled twice a month and continue for three months. They take around thirty minutes to perform and are non-surgical in nature.

The process involves preparing the area for treatment with a cleansing agent. After this, an ultrasound gel is applied. The ReVive electrodes are then positioned around the affected area and you will feel a warm sensation where the devices are applied against the skin.

After the treatment, the patient can continue with their daily life. They do not need extra rest or time away from their own routine. This makes ReVive perfect for a woman with a strict schedule or rushed lifestyle who cannot take time off.

Its non-surgical nature means this treatment is perfect for those who wish to avoid invasive treatments. Many who were thinking about labiaplasty have instead chosen to opt for ReVive instead. Labiaplasty can sometimes lead to scarring and ongoing pain, so ReVive is a wonderful alternative.

Shockwave Therapy

For sex drive issues, such as a lack of moistness or erectile dysfunction, shockwave therapy has had significant success. It can restore the muscles and tissues that lead to a positive sex life. For this reason, it has recently started to have a significant surge in popularity.

Shockwave therapy involves using acoustic waves and targeting them in specific areas. Acoustic waves are small vibrations that can assist with loosening or tightening areas.

Shockwave therapy treatment providers at Renew use a specialized wand to focus these acoustic waves towards parts of the body that need to repair themselves. This encourages the body’s natural healing processes and kickstarts its repair effort.

As the acoustic waves travel through the shockwave therapy device, they maintain their kinetic nature. The wand creates these acoustic waves by forcing compressed air through the shockwave wand. The wave then gets transferred to the transmitter at the end of the wand.

The wand is then placed against the affected area. From the wand, this kinetic energy stimulates the tissue deep in the body and can have a significant effect on the region’s healing potential.

Shock Wave Therapy for ED

When this method of treatment gets used on a person’s genitalia, it can help encourage blood flow. Also, it can reverse inflammation from chronic issues such as Peyronie’s disease and generally improve comfort levels in the area.

Shockwave therapy is a proven treatment for erectile dysfunction. The therapy enables a man to achieve a full and lasting erection.

Alternatively, shockwave therapy may aid the vagina’s natural methods of lubricating. This will be due to increased stimulation of the area from the acoustic wand.

BTL Emsella for Pelvic Floor Health

For those with incontinence issues, loss of bladder control during sex can be a major worry. Fortunately, there are solutions available such as the FDA-approved, Emsella chair.

This chair, also referred to as the Kegal Throne, works by penetrating the body with electromagnetic technology. This repeatedly stimulates muscles to contract. It’s like doing 11,000 kegels in 28 minutes!

This exercises the muscles and builds up their strength. The result gives the individual greater control over their body’s functions. Patients achieve a more toned and tightened pelvic floor straight away after a single treatment. Emsella tightens vagina walls, minimizes urinary incontinence and enhances sexual satisfaction. Women have also reported increased strength of orgasms.

You sit on the chair fully clothed while the electronic waves work their magic for less than half an hour. Due to the non-invasive nature of the procedure, you can get straight back to your life afterward.

Reduce Your Stress

Finally, we understand that everyone has things that stress them out in life, but one thing you might not realize is that the things that are stressing you out might be why you need to seek a sexual health doctor near you. It’s crucial that even with the things that life throws at you, there’s a way for you to destress.

This could mean taking a relaxing bath at the end of the day or it could mean meditating and clearing your mind of clutter. When you take the time to reduce your stress, you’ll find that you’re able to focus better in other areas of your life, including your sex life and the bedroom.

The human body is amazing and strong. However, it goes through many changes as a result of aging and normal wear and tear, not to mention childbirth for women. In fact, one of the common problems that women in particular face is a prolapsed bladder. It affects nearly 40% of women in the United States but can also affect men.

This condition is uncomfortable and usually requires treatment. Thankfully, there are non-invasive options that men and women can take advantage of as an alternative to surgery.

With that in mind, if you’re experiencing pelvic floor prolapse, this guide has the answer. Keep reading to discover your options and treatments available at Renew Wellness & Aesthetics.

What Is a Prolapsed Bladder?

A prolapsed bladder occurs due to weakening pelvic floor tissues. The bladder isn’t the only part of the body that prolapses. Other organs such as the urethra, uterus, rectum, and the small bowel prolapse too.

Do both men and women suffer from prolapse?

Pelvic organ prolapse is caused by a pelvic support problem. It is more common in women but can occur in men as well. There are different pelvic conditions that are unique to men and women.

Prolapsed Bladder Symptoms in Women:

In women, this includes the weakening of vaginal tissues. The bladder is held in place by the pelvic floor muscles and tissues within women. But when prolapse occurs, the tissues are stretched, become weak and cause the pelvic floor to drop and bulge into the vagina. It causes a hernia, and many women experience pressure in the vaginal area too.

This condition is also called a dropped uterus, dropped vagina, or a dropped rectum. Medical professionals refer to it as a cystocele.

Prolapse usually occurs as a result of pregnancy and childbirth. On the other hand, it happens to women who have never had kids as well. Additionally, prolapse is the side effect of chronic constipation, repetitive heavy lifting, severe coughing, and poor tissue integrity. It also occurs due to aging and menopause.

In addition to a bulge in the vaginal area, there are other symptoms associated with pelvic floor prolapse.
Symptoms include the following:

  • A constant urge to urinate
  • Urinary incontinence
  • Discomfort or pain during sex
  • Tissue protruding out of the vagina
  • Frequent urinary tract infections
  • Feeling additional weight or pressure in the vaginal area
  • Pain in the pelvis, groin, vagina, lower back, and lower belly

Prolapsed Bladder Symptoms in Men:

Millions of men across the globe experience pelvic floor dysfunction. Because the pelvic floor muscles work as part of the digestive and reproductive systems during urination and sex, pelvic floor dysfunction and prolapse can co-exist with many other conditions affecting men, including:
  • Male urinary dysfunction: This condition can involve leaking urine after peeing, frequent urination and other bladder and bowel issues.
  • Erectile Dysfunction (ED): ED is when men can’t get or maintain an erection during sex. Sometimes pelvic muscle tension or pain can contribute to this issue.
  • Prostatitis: Pelvic floor dysfunction and prolapse symptoms closely resemble prostatitis, which is an infection or inflammation of the prostate. Prostatitis can have many causes including bacteria, sexually transmitted infections or trauma to the nervous system.
Symptoms include the following:
  • Pelvic pressure
  • Heaviness, fullness, pressure
  • A sense that something is falling out
  • Trouble emptying your bowel or bladder completely
  • Urine leakage, frequency, chronic urinary tract infections, difficulty urinating
  • Protrusion of the rectum out of the anus
  • Difficult bowel movements or trapping of stool
  • Lower backache

Non-Invasive Prolapse Treatments for Prolapsed Bladder

In most cases, a prolapsed bladder is a mild condition. It’s usually up to the discretion of the patient as to when to get the condition treated. However, if it’s left unattended, the condition could get worse over time.

In regard to postpartum bladder prolapse, new symptoms usually disappear within a year after delivery. The only time that the condition is considered severe is when there is urinary retention and the bladder is unable to empty itself. In this situation, the problem could lead to kidney damage or infection, and treatment is mandatory. However, urgent medical attention due to urinary tract infection is rare.

As previously stated, you don’t need to have surgery to treat a prolapsed bladder. There are non-invasive treatments that you can do to correct the issue, including the following:

  1. Pelvic Floor Prolapse Exercises

Since the pelvic floor supports the bladder, strengthening it helps to improve prolapse. Kegel exercises are most effective in tightening the pelvic floor. Not only that, but they can be done at home or anywhere. To perform the exercise, make sure your bladder is empty and squeeze your pelvic muscles. They are the same muscle group you’d clench when trying to hold in urine. Tighten for three to five seconds and release. Repeat this exercise about 10 times and do it three times per day. While pelvic floor exercises are helpful, they’re not always a successful form of treatment. If your prolapsed bladder is beyond mild, it’ll require something more effective.
  2. Pessary

A pessary is a plastic device that’s inserted into the vagina to provide compression and offer urethral support. It’s a non-invasive option that helps to lift the bladder and apply compression to the urethra so that there is no leakage. Pessaries come in a variety of sizes and shapes to accommodate individual support. Women who receive this treatment often need estrogen tablets, cream, or a ring to tighten the vaginal skin—especially those going through menopause. Incorporating estrogen helps to minimize the risk of ulceration or vaginal skin erosion. Getting a pessary isn’t the best option. It requires continual care and there is a high risk of vaginal infection and bleeding. Not to mention if a pessary isn’t properly cared for, it can cause erosion within the bladder, rectum, or vaginal wall. Only half of the women who receive this treatment continue with it on a long-term basis.
  3. FDA Approved, Emsella Treatments

Unlike the treatment options above, Emsella offers incredible benefits. This method uses high-velocity electronic magnetic fields to trigger motor neurons in the pelvic floor. It provides deep penetration into the targeted tissues in the pelvic floor, and it stimulates the muscles. It is FDA-approved for both men’s and women’s urinary incontinence. Not only that, but it’s non-invasive, which makes it a great option. Emsella provides better results than basic pelvic floor exercises, and it doesn’t pose as much of a risk as getting a pessary. Not to mention, this treatment is comfortable. You sit on the Emsella chair, fully-clothed while the electronic waves work their magic. In about three weeks, you should notice a difference because this treatment restores the pelvic organs and builds muscle strength. Commonly referred to as the “Kegel throne”, this treatment option is one of the very best non-invasive options available. Furthermore, Emsella tightens vagina walls, minimizes urinary incontinence, and enhances sexual satisfaction. If you’re looking for a treatment that is effective but doesn’t require surgery or cause uncomfortable side effects, this is it.

Hello again! We wanted to share this Lash Lift OKC Guide to highlight our lash lift and tint services offered at Renew. You may have heard of this service, thanks to its recent popularity on TikTok. If you’ve been around the beauty industry long enough, you might even remember it being called a lash “perm.” Either way, this service has made its way back to service menus in spas and salons across the country in the last 5 years. And for good reason!

So what is a lash lift and tint? A lash lift and tint is great for several reasons. The reason it’s our pick for any type of eyelash enhancement service is because it uses your own natural lashes. Do you wear mascara daily? During this service, we’re basically replicating the look of a gorgeous mascara-coated and curled eyelashes.

How long does a Lash Lift last?

A lash lift and tint gives your eyes a much more open or “doe-eyed” appearance and lasts roughly 10 weeks. We can control the “lift” of the curl and give a very dramatic or very subtle look – the choice is yours! This service is wonderful for clients who have stubborn straight eyelashes, lashes that point straight down (like mine), or even clients who have unruly lashes that crisscross and never sit quite right.

Lash Lift OKC : What is a Lash Tint?

This Lash Guide OKC wouldn’t be complete without information on lash tint. This gives the lashes their mascara-coated look. As a true blondie, my light-colored lashes always look much fuller when I have them tinted, and it really helps to define my lash line as well. While we recommend doing these services as a pair, you can definitely do them as stand-alone services. As with any service we offer, your lash curl size and tint color are 100% customized to you and your beauty goals.

A Lash Extension alternative

This service is also a great alternative option for clients who love the look of lash extensions but not the upkeep or hassle of having them. We love that it gives your natural lashes a little break in having something glued on them 24/7. The lift serums we use are keratin-infused, which adds a nice healthy boost to anyone’s lashes. This service takes roughly an hour and only needs to be done every 8-10 weeks. It carries no downtime and is a nice excuse to come take a little cat nap during the day!

Latisse Lash Growth Serum

If in fact you are trying to take a break from lash extensions and feel like you might need a little boost, we recommend adding Latisse Lash Growth Serum to your routine as well! It’s an incredible FDA-approved eyelash growth serum (which can also be used on eyebrows). It helps to quickly and safely grow long and luscious lashes! We can always tell when a client has been faithfully using their eyelash serum because they have the longest and fullest lashes. Apply Latisse once daily to the lash line (or brow area) using the small brushes provided in your lash lift kit.

Overall, lash services are treatments that we love, and so do our clients! We hope you found this Lash Lift OKC Guide helpful. Giving your lashes a lift and tint is a great way to make a small change to your look without causing any damage to the natural lash. It’s also worth noting that while we are all wearing masks, the eyes are the new focal point of our face, so let’s make them pop. Learn more about all of our lash and brow services. We can’t wait to see you in for your lash lift and tint soon!
